Michael Shone is a highly experienced and accomplished School Principal, bringing more than two decades of leadership within Victorian government schools. Over the course of his career, he has demonstrated a deep commitment to educational excellence, equity, and continuous school improvement. His leadership has been characterised by a strong focus on fostering positive school cultures, enhancing student learning outcomes, and building the capacity of staff and leadership teams.

Michael has played an influential role beyond his own school settings. He has actively contributed to two principal network executive boards, where he collaborated with fellow leaders to shape regional educational priorities, share best practices, and support system-wide improvement. In addition, he has served as a challenge partner in school review processes, providing critical insight, professional rigour, and constructive feedback to help schools identify areas for growth and implement effective improvement strategies.

His leadership experience spans a diverse range of educational contexts. Michael has successfully led both small rural schools and large, complex multi-campus secondary colleges, demonstrating adaptability and strategic insight across varied environments. He has also worked in close partnership with numerous primary schools, particularly those within shared local communities, to strengthen transitions, align educational practices, and promote consistent, high-quality outcomes for students. A key aspect of this work has been his emphasis on student wellbeing as a foundation for academic success.

Michael brings extensive expertise in strategic planning and policy development, having led the design and implementation of school strategic plans that align with system priorities while responding to the unique needs of individual school communities. He has guided schools through comprehensive review processes, using data-informed approaches to drive sustained improvement in both school climate and student achievement.

A strong advocate for professional growth, Michael is also highly regarded for his work in mentoring and coaching. He has supported individual educators and leadership teams to build their capability, confidence, and effectiveness, fostering collaborative cultures and empowering others to lead with impact. His approach is grounded in reflective practice, evidence-based strategies, and a genuine commitment to developing others.
